Back in 2004 the Yamaha Corporation started development on a voice synthesizer program that could be used to create music by simply typing in lyrics and putting them to a melody. This program was released to the Japanese public on November 5, 2004 with Crypton Future Media's "Meiko" program, a Japanese female voice, and later in February 17, 2006 with "Kaito", a Japanese male voice.
These programs are called VOCALOIDs, a combination of Vocal and Android
